Night Bloomers and Moon Gardens Although not as common to the garden as flowers that bloom in the morning or during the day, flowers that bloom at night or in the evening hours are quite numerous and attractive. Gardens designed specifically for blooming at night are called moon gardens and can have special appeal to those who are not at home to enjoy their gardens during the day. Moon gardens typically consist of plants that are fragrant, have white flowers or foliage, and, of course, bloom in the evening hours.
Annuals versus Perennials, the Age Debate It had been several years since we first moved into our house, when I decided that I wanted to plant some flowers to brighten up the landscape. The logical decision, since I thought that I only new a little about gardening, was to go to the local greenhouse. The owner was extremely helpful and friendly and asked deep, probing questions. Well, he asked one question. I mentioned that I thought I only knew a little about gardening. It turns out I knew nothing. I couldn’t answer his first question – “Annual or Perennial.”
Scents of Herbal Gardening If you tell someone that you are a gardener, they almost immediate want to know if you grow flowers or vegetables. They are always trying to figure out how big something can be. How big is your flower garden? How many kinds of lettuce are you growing? How many acres do you grow? It’s nice to be able to challenge their way of thinking. People tend to over look the smallest of the garden products – the herbs.
Easy Annuals in the Garden Annual flowers are just that - one season flowers. That can change, of course, in warm climates where the seeds that drop from mature flowers live through the winter and take root when the next growing season arrives.
